Furniture Hickory Flat Collection
Architecture you can sit on
Throughout architectural history, furniture has extended the built environment, reinforcing spatial ideas at a human scale. Architects like Frank Lloyd Wright and Michael Graves treated furniture as an integral extension of their buildings, uniting form, material, and experience. Today, Cas continues this rare tradition, designing complete environments where custom millwork and site-specific furnishings create spaces that are not only seen, but intimately experienced.
At the Hickory Flat Library, furniture crafted from the same wood and color palette as the building design reinforces the architectural language, blurring the line between structure and furnishings. Powder blue, a signature across Cas projects, honors both the firm’s identity and a lasting tribute to Michael Graves, Chad Alexander Smith’s professor and mentor. Following Graves’ passing, Chad obtained the studio’s custom Powder Blue formula and began incorporating it into his work as a homage to Graves’ influence.
